In a significant leadership change, Sadettin Saran has been elected the new president of Fenerbahçe. During the club's Extraordinary Elective General Assembly, Saran secured the top position after receiving a commanding 12,325 votes, a testament to the trust placed in him by the club's members. As the 38th president, he is now tasked with leading the club into a new era.
Saran's journey is a fascinating blend of athletics and business. Born in the United States in 1964, he is the eldest of four brothers and hails from Keskin, Kırıkkale, in Turkey. He captained the Turkish National Swimming Team from 1984 to 1985 and even set a national record in the 50-meter freestyle, showcasing his competitive spirit and dedication from a young age.
After his athletic career, Saran pursued his education in the U.S., earning a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kentucky on a national athlete scholarship. He began his professional life at Ensco Environmental Services in Arkansas before returning to Turkey in 1988 to work as a Foreign Relations Advisor for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
In 1989, he laid the foundation for his business empire by founding Saran International, which grew into the sprawling Saran Holding, operating across diverse sectors including media, aviation, online publishing, gaming, and defense.
Saran is no stranger to the inner workings of Fenerbahçe. He previously served on the club's board of directors in 2001, where he was responsible for the football branch. He resigned in 2003 but continued to be involved in the world of football by purchasing shares in German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund in 2004, which he later sold in 2005. Now, with his latest election win, he returns to the club to lead it from the very top.
