Altay Bayindir under fire! I am not sure he s even a goalkeeper

Manchester United lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal in their first match of the season. Altay Bayindir costly mistake on the conceded goal sparked heavy criticism and claims of a foul.

Following the goal, the Turkish goalkeeper faced backlash from Manchester United fans as well as criticism from club legend Gary Neville. Speaking at halftime, Neville said: 'Altay Bayindir needed to be stronger. He protested that he was fouled and will probably complain about it. There was a player in front of him and a lot of pushing and shoving inside the box. But a goalkeeper has to be stronger there. Saliba did not commit a foul on Bayindir.

Club legend Roy Keane also had harsh words for Altay Bayindir:

'The goalkeeper has to take command of the six-yard box. I’ve said it time and time again  that area is yours. You have to be stronger, more aggressive. Altay was far too weak and soft in that situation. Manchester United fans should be furious with their goalkeeper. I’m not even sure this guy is a goalkeeper. It was schoolboy stuff. Don’t look to the referee take control yourself.'

After Keane’s comments, a debate broke out on the same program with fellow pundit Micah Richards. Richards argued that United’s defense was too weak and that Altay was not well protected by his defenders. Richards said, 'I thought De Ligt could move inside and Mount could come outside. I agree with Roy, Altay should have done much better, but when you have so many players in front of you…'

In a report by the Daily Mail, Manchester United fans’ reactions were highlighted. The comments about Bayındır included:

'I can’t believe I’m wishing Onana would start instead of Altay, what a time to be alive.'

'Altay Bayındır is even worse than Andre Onana.'

'Buy Donnarumma immediately! Oh my God, here we go again!'

'Go and get Donnarumma! Both our goalkeepers are terrible. Our best option is Heaton!'"**
