Beşiktaş has officially announced the departure of head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the appointment of Sergen Yalçın to lead the team. The change at the helm comes after the club's disappointing early exit from the UEFA Conference League at the hands of Swiss side Lausanne.
The club released an official statement confirming the news: "Our contract with Head Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated as a result of a decision made at the board of directors meeting."
Following Solskjaer's removal, the Beşiktaş management immediately began its search for a new manager. Club President Serdal Adalı personally met with Sergen Yalçın, a name highly anticipated by the fans. Following the discussions, an agreement was reached between the parties.
According to a report from TRT Spor, all terms were agreed upon, officially ushering in the second Sergen Yalçın era at the club. Yalçın, a former player and championship-winning coach for Beşiktaş, is expected to lead the team's training session today.
Yalçın previously led Beşiktaş to a historic domestic double in the 2020-21 season, winning both the Süper Lig and the Turkish Cup. His return has generated significant excitement among the club's supporters, with the management believing he is the right choice to lead a major restructuring effort following the team's early elimination from European competition.
