The boxing world can mark its calendars: the blockbuster showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is officially set for September 13 in Las Vegas, with global live streaming exclusively on Netflix. Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and president of the Saudi Boxing Federation, made the announcement regarding the broadcast partner and host city on Tuesday, though the specific venue in Las Vegas is yet to be determined. The colossal event will be co-promoted by Alalshikh's Riyadh Season, UFC president and CEO Dana White, and Sela.
"On September 13, Canelo and Crawford, two legends of boxing, will finally compete against each other in the fight of the century," Alalshikh declared, promising an "incredible" spectacle for fans worldwide. Dana White's involvement, which initially raised questions due to a prior UFC Noche event scheduled for September 12, has now been clarified. Construction delays for Arena Guadalajara forced the UFC event to relocate and change to a free Fight Night card, resolving any conflict. White expressed immense excitement, calling it "literally a once-in-a-lifetime fight."
While Allegiant Stadium was previously announced as the venue, the date change has cast doubt on its availability, with UNLV scheduled to play there on September 13. T-Mobile Arena, a frequent host for major combat sports events, currently has no conflicting holds. To build anticipation, a three-city international media tour is planned, kicking off in Riyadh on June 20, followed by stops in New York on June 22, and concluding in Las Vegas on June 27.
Canelo Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs), the undisputed super middleweight champion, enters the fight coming off a unanimous decision victory over William Scull in May. He has won six consecutive fights since his 2022 loss to Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight. "I'm super happy to be making history again and this time on a Riyadh Season Card that will be broadcast on Netflix," said Canelo, asserting his status as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), boasting a perfect professional record, last fought in August, defeating Israil Madrimov for the WBA junior middleweight championship. He previously held undisputed titles at both welterweight and junior welterweight. "My perfect record speaks for itself," Crawford stated. "I am the best fighter in the world and no matter the opponent or weight class, I have always come out on top." On September 13, the world will witness if his hand will be raised once again in this historic clash.
