Although Lyon is appealing this decision, they have agreed to relinquish their Europa League spot if the demotion stands. Consequently, UEFA has opted to await the outcome of Lyon's appeal before making a final decision on Palace's participation. The duration of Lyon's appeal process is currently unknown, with UEFA stating further details will be announced "in due course."

Sources indicate that Palace was prepared for this delay, as European football's governing body decided last week to postpone the announcement. There is a palpable concern within Selhurst Park that UEFA prefers the decision to be resolved by the French football's regulatory body (DNCG) rather than making a direct ruling. If Lyon's relegation is upheld, Palace is expected to secure its Europa League place. However, if Lyon wins its appeal, UEFA will then be forced to rule on whether Textor held significant control at Palace, a point the club disputes.

Palace argues they are not in breach of UEFA's multi-club ownership rules and feel they earned their European spot through sporting merit. There's a strong sense of injustice within the club, given their reputation as a financially well-run Premier League side, contrasting sharply with Lyon's chaotic financial state. For now, Crystal Palace's European ambitions remain firmly in the hands of the French football authorities.
