Dillian Whyte set for return to the boxing ring next month

British heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte is preparing to step back into the ring next month, marking his return after a period of absence due to injury. Whyte's comeback fight is scheduled to take place on June 7th. The 36-year-old Brixton fighter has been sidelined recently while recovering from a severe injury to his finger. This injury, sustained during training last month in April, unfortunately led to the cancellation of a highly anticipated bout he was scheduled to have against fellow heavyweight Joe Joyce. That fight was originally planned for Manchester last month.

Whyte's last competitive appearance in the ring was in December, where he secured a seventh-round stoppage victory over Ebenezer Tetteh. Prior to his injury setback, he had been aiming for a significant win against Joe Joyce; however, Joyce subsequently fought Filip Hrgovic instead and was defeated on points.

Whyte's return bout will be part of the same event featuring the WBA interim title fight between Fabio Wardley and Australia's Justis Huni. The card is set to take place at Portman Road. Whyte has a connection to Fabio Wardley, having previously acted as a mentor for him. The winner of the Wardley-Huni clash will position themselves for a potential shot at the WBA heavyweight world championship, which is currently held by Kubrat Pulev.

Earlier this year, Dillian Whyte was also named on a shortlist of potential opponents for his long-time rival, Anthony Joshua. Whyte himself expressed his interest in that matchup, stating that facing Joshua would be a "perfect opponent" for him.

After recovering from the severe finger injury that forced him out of the planned fight against Joe Joyce, Dillian Whyte is now poised to resume his boxing career next month on a notable heavyweight bill, with aspirations of pursuing major contests, potentially including a future clash with Anthony Joshua.
