In the past many clubs have made offers to Atalanta and I have always remained loyal. However, together with the owners of the club we agreed that now is the right time and the club made it clear to me that they would allow my transfer if a fair offer came in. Unfortunately, despite the fact that I have received an offer in line with the terms I believe were discussed, the club is blocking this opportunity for reasons that are beyond my understanding.

As a result, after months of inconsistent promises and mistreatment of me as a human being and as a professional footballer, I unfortunately feel that I have no choice but to voice what I believe to be the right thing and say enough is enough. I can confirm that I have submitted my formal transfer request. Even in the extremely difficult moments I have been through, even in the most private and confidential moments, I have always tried to put the club, the fans and the team first and hoped it would not come to this, but unfortunately I feel I have no choice now.

I want to say to the fans, who are the heart of this club: I'm really sorry that it has come to this. I hope you will understand this incredibly difficult situation, it's just about standing up for what I believe is fair and right. The support you have always given me has been incredible and the bond we have built together is very special. Working with the club, I hope to find an amicable solution for all parties as soon as possible."
