UFC President Dana White announced that heavyweight champion Jon Jones ended his career at the age of 37, and the new heavyweight champion is Tom Aspinall.
Following the UFC Fight Night event in Baku, Azerbaijan, UFC President Dana White announced the retirement of US Jon Jones, who is considered the most talented name in the history of MMA (mixed martial arts). After announcing Jon Jones, White also stated that the new heavyweight champion is Tom Aspinall. Dana White said, "Jon Jones called us and told us he's retired. He is now officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the UFC heavyweight champion."
When asked if Jon Jones regretted the time given to him to make a decision, White replied, “If you look at what he has achieved in this sport, no.”
Tom Aspinall, 32, from England, was the interim heavyweight champion before Dana White's announcement. Now he is the undisputed champion after three wins over Marcin Tybura, Sergei Pavlovich and Curtis Blaydes.
Jon Jones holds a 28-1 record in the UFC, with his only defeat coming in 2009 when he landed a prohibited hit against Matt Hamill.
