Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie was subjected to "discriminatory, racist remarks" by fans in the away section after the team's 2-0 victory against Parma on Sunday. The incident occurred as the USMNT star and other teammates who had not played the full match conducted a training session on the pitch following the final whistle.
Juventus immediately and forcefully condemned the abuse in an official statement released on X (formerly Twitter).
Official club statement
"This evening, at the end of the match against Parma, Weston McKennie was subjected to discriminatory racist remarks by some individuals in the away section, while he was training on the pitch with his teammates who had not taken part in the game," the Bianconeri said.
"Juventus strongly condemns this incident and any form of racism, and will ensure full cooperation with the sporting justice authorities to identify those responsible."
The American midfielder had entered the game as a substitute in the second half. The incident occurred despite the absence of Parma's organized fan group, the Gialloblu ultras, who had boycotted the match due to ticket prices, meaning the approximately 1,000 fans present were general supporters.
On the pitch, Juventus secured the 2-0 win with goals from Jonathan David (his first Serie A goal) and Dusan Vlahovic. Both strikers were assisted by Kenan Yildiz, who was named Man of the Match at Allianz Stadium.
