ESPN previously reported that Madrid was nearing a deal for the teenage playmaker, with only the payment structure and the player's arrival date left to finalize. Madrid had been tracking the Argentina international for two years, with many other top European clubs also showing keen interest.
Real Madrid beat PSG in Mastantuono race!
While Madrid's interest cooled for a period, they moved swiftly this month when Paris Saint-Germain threatened to close a deal for his signature. Despite PSG's strong approach, Mastantuono prioritized a move to Real Madrid. The young talent will turn 18 on August 14, 2025.
It was the player's preference to play for River Plate in the Club World Cup, which is believed to have helped ease his departure before joining Madrid. This signing marks Madrid's third major acquisition this summer, following the presentations of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold. These moves underscore Real Madrid's determination to rebound from a challenging season where they failed to secure a major trophy and suffered four defeats to arch-rivals Barcelona.
Both the club and new coach Xabi Alonso believe Mastantuono will be an immediate asset to the first team. They highly rate his vision and ability from set pieces, and positive reports on his personality and attitude have also reached the club in recent months.
Mastantuono showcased his potential by scoring four goals and providing four assists for River Plate in 12 appearances during the first phase of Argentina's top division this year. He also made his full Argentina debut this month, coming off the bench in their 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile.
