Barcelona's search for a new winger for the upcoming season has hit a snag, with the prospect of signing Rafael Leão from AC Milan now looking increasingly unlikely. While Leão was always considered a secondary option behind primary targets like Luis Díaz and Marcus Rashford – and the recently dismissed Nico Williams – the possibility of bringing the Portuguese forward to Camp Nou appears to be diminishing. Despite persistent efforts from super-agent Jorge Mendes to push for a move, and President Joan Laporta's long-standing admiration for the player, a transfer has never been truly feasible.
The latest blow to Barcelona's hopes comes directly from Massimiliano Allegri, AC Milan's newly appointed head coach. In a press conference, Allegri made it clear that he has no intention of letting Leão leave. "Leão is an extraordinary player, I'm sure he will have a great season," Allegri stated, words that seem to definitively close the door on the forward's departure. The coach further emphasized Leão's importance, adding that "the most important years of a footballer's career are between 26 and 30," a bracket Leão, currently 26, falls squarely within.
Barcelona's interest in Leão had already waned somewhat due to his performance last season and certain behavioral aspects during the campaign. With the Leão option fading, Sporting Director Deco is expected to press ahead with his original transfer plan. This strategy prioritizes the acquisitions of Luis Díaz and Marcus Rashford, who were at the top of Barcelona's wishlist before the brief consideration of Nico Williams.
Barcelona is now reportedly waiting for Luis Díaz to communicate his desire to leave Liverpool to his coach. In the case of Rashford, negotiations with Manchester United will be necessary to determine the terms of his potential exit. The focus remains squarely on these two targets as Barcelona navigates the complexities of the transfer market.
