Liverpool are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Alexander Isak, the prolific Newcastle United striker, and are prepared to launch an enormous bid to secure his services. According to GIVEMESPORT sources, the Reds are ready to shatter the British transfer record for the second time in quick succession this summer in their quest for a new world-class forward.
Fresh off being crowned 2024/25 Premier League champions, Liverpool boss Arne Slot is determined to further strengthen his squad. This commitment has already seen Jeremie Frimpong arrive for £29.5 million following Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid, and Germany international Florian Wirtz is also set to be announced as a record-breaking £116.5 million signing in the coming days. However, Liverpool's ambition doesn't stop there.
Sources indicate that Liverpool is prepared to offer £100 million plus add-ons for Isak, a package that would surpass the fee agreed for Wirtz, making him potentially the most expensive player in British football history. The 25-year-old Sweden international has been lauded as 'the best striker in the world' for his electrifying form at St James' Park, including scoring the winning goal in the 2024/25 Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, a performance that undoubtedly left an impression on the Anfield hierarchy.
Isak is described as Liverpool's "dream target" as they seek a new big-name centre-forward. The club is keen to gauge Newcastle's willingness to sanction his departure, especially after his prolific season. While Liverpool is also set to finalize the acquisition of Milos Kerkez as their primary left-back target, Slot's focus remains firmly on injecting more firepower into his attack.
At least £150 million...
However, Newcastle's recent qualification for the Champions League complicates matters. Sources suggest Isak would only be sold if an offer upwards of £150 million were lodged. Despite this steep valuation, Liverpool has indicated a readiness to spend significantly if it becomes clear that a deal for Isak is genuinely possible at a price they deem acceptable.
A key factor fueling Liverpool's intense interest in Isak is the anticipated departure of Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan frontman has reportedly attracted interest from Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Saudi Pro League clubs, and Liverpool plans to use any funds from his exit to finance Isak's acquisition. While Liverpool rejected a £59 million offer from Al-Nassr in the winter window, they would now be willing to accept a similar figure for Nunez ahead of the new season.
Beyond Isak, Liverpool's shortlist for attacking reinforcements reportedly includes Joao Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion), Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig). Additionally, Newcastle's Anthony Gordon is being considered as a left-sided option should Luis Diaz leave Anfield. Recent reports suggest Al-Nassr is contemplating a bid for Diaz, who is open to a move, but Liverpool's primary plan is to convince him to remain on Merseyside, particularly now that Barcelona, another former suitor, has reportedly shifted its focus to Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams.
